LAST EDITIONS

BESTEM is an amazing opportunity for both first-time and experienced coders to collaborate, innovate, learn and find solutions to challenging tasks in 24 hours. Some of our past participants highlighted their experiences and shared thoughts about the hackathon.

BESTEM was the first Hackathon I participated in and I will always remember it.

I realized how important teamwork is and how great and helpful our community in the software industry is. We give each other ongoing support and share the latest trends. BESTEM proved to me that you can learn and evolve enormously in just a few hours if you are surrounded by the top people in your field.

I recommend anyone to get out of their comfort zone and be part of it.

We gathered authentic engineering experience by engaging in the end-to-end process of developing an application, including the brainstorming, design, implementation, and final presentation in front of the jury.

Although it was an atypical Hackathon experience, taking place entirely online, we had plenty of human interaction, which helped us stay focused.

If you still have doubts about getting involved, it is time to change your mind!

BESTEM was a great opportunity to both learn new things and also create something new and exciting while working in a great team. For me, the hackathons are the starting point for my career and also the best coding experiences I ever had. I don’t think there is another chance to code 24 hours with two friends and just have fun.

You don’t need to be the best, but to try something new and keep learning. You will see that it’s a lot of fun this way, and you can also win some prizes.

BESTEM 2020

The year 2020 met BESTEM with devastating news regarding the pandemic situation that led to the event needing to be hosted in an online environment. However, this did not stop our spectacular team of people to spend day and night researching and looking for ways to make it possible, therefore creating an amazing experience for the participants and succeeding in making an unforgettable and memorable event.

The challenge proposed by EY was to design an application that would give quick insight into any terms and conditions. The application should help the end-user understand what they sign or accept. The participants had to come up with a plan of simplifying the agreement of any terms of service. They had the chance to learn and integrate various technologies such as NLP (Natural language processing), Big Data, AI, and Cloud.

The challenge proposed by Deloitte Digital was to create an application/platform that could help subside the expansion of the COVID-19 virus. The idea of this task was to assist anyone in order to avoid possible infected areas and protect themselves. The evaluation criteria included the idea of the app itself, the design, architecture, and complexity.

The challenge proposed by Adobe was to find a solution to keep creatives in touch with their audience and you in touch with the local cultural vibe. The participants had the option to use the already existing knowledge data sources and make it easier for users to filter events and follow relevant content. Another option was to create a new platform where creators could post their content and gigs while interacting with people who are interested in their work.

BESTEM 2019

The year 2019 was the last year BESTEM was hosted in person, and it brought together some of the brightest minds to compete and create impressive projects and solve intriguing problems in order to complete the challenges provided by the companies that joined us.

The challenge proposed by Rinf Tech was to build an Emergency Exit service.

Touristic areas/retail/office buildings could enroll in this service by adding topographical plans for evacuation in case of natural disasters and emergency exits by installing sensors in specific areas. The sensors could detect the viability of the exit at any moment. The spaces currently enrolled in the service will receive a QR Code displayed inside the building/at the public entrance, and the clients/visitors could scan it with a phone app.

The challenge proposed by Arggo was to build a Student Assistant application. The mandatory features were the administration of the income, expenditure, and savings by collecting the data from the user (monthly income, daily expenses, investments).

The app contained a system of alerts when introducing data such as: alert for an out-of-place expense; in case the available balance does not cover the necessities for the current month and Email/app notifications when you have reached the pre-set savings/expenses level.

The challenge proposed by Ivanti was to build a SRI (Speech Recognition Intelligence) that would watch over your discussions. The software system should have been capable of handling, monitoring, understanding, transcribing, storing, and retrieving in the conversational format a meeting/discussion/talk between multiple participants.

This technology could have contained functionality for speaker registration and recognition, as well as extract analytical data based on the conversation.
